A message from the TTA Board and Office Team
Dear partners in tourism
We have entered lockdown in South Africa and now is the time, as a first priority, to stay safe, each do our part to #flattenthecurve and follow the healthcare guidelines as shared on sacoronavirus.co.za or who.int.
Our industry is facing extremely challenging times and many businesses have been affected. However, we need to keep in mind that this will pass and it is necessary to be ready to contribute to rebuilding tourism when the pandemic is over. The heartening response by the people of South Africa to the threat posed to all citizens by the COVID-19 virus illustrates what can be achieved and we will need to face the future with courage and determination.
The TTA Board and TTA Office are working from home and we will continue to keep you updated through WhatsApp messages, emails, the TTA COVID-19 webpage, newsletters and the TTA Facebook Page.
TTA would like assist you in facing challenges during this time and provide support and platforms for a pro-active recovery process. You are encouraged to please share experiences, progress and constructive suggestions that will help to rebuild our industry on e-mail to secretary@tshwanetourism.com to be consolidated into plans for the benefit of all.
We are stronger together and together we shall overcome.
Stay safe and keep communicating,
The Team @ TTA

Safe accommodation for healthcare workers launched
Ubuntu Beds is an initiative that aims to unite hospitality businesses that now stand empty, with our healthcare workers who are fighting the virus on the front lines.
South Africa is still in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the coming weeks, we expect infections to increase drastically, causing our hospitals and clinics to become overwhelmed with patients in need of assistance. What this means for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers is longer hours, heightened stress, and exposure to the virus.
By connecting healthcare workers with accommodation, we can ensure they won’t need to travel long distances home to their families, that they’ll be able to rest easy, and in turn, ensure the safety of more South Africans.
You too can help by liking and sharing and spreading the love.
Donate or contribute to Ubuntu Beds
#SaveSARestaurants
It is essential that when restaurants in South Africa are allowed to reopen after the national lock-down that they be allowed to do so in a feasible and sustainable manner.
The TTA is collating information on the state of readiness of restaurants to reopen, and the effect that any potential restrictions may have on restaurants upon reopening, to submit to National Government to inform their decision making.
Kindly complete the online form to participate in this initiative to ensure that our restaurants are supported to reopen in a sustainable manner.
Department of Labour Employee Relief Scheme (TERS)
The Department of Labour has introduced a new e-mail address for the Temporary Employer / Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) to help companies fund their employees’ wages amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Employer/s that have to enforce lock down as regulated and who might require financial assistance from the UIF should access information regarding available funding through a dedicated mailbox covid19ters@labour.gov.za.
On receipt of a request, an automated response will be sent outlining the procedure and documents/information required by the Fund to process your application.
For more information, read the COVID-19 TERS Easy Aid guide.
